palenque12 The Tower of the Winds or Observatory.

The mythological site of Palenque is the only Maya-site with a tomb, to be compared with the Egyptian Pyramids who actually normally contained tombs. There is another marvelous correlation between the Kings Chamber at at Giza and this tower at Palenque who both are 4 levels high. (Source: The Mayan Factor, Jose Arguelles, Bear, 1987).

The Tower of the Winds is unique because of its harmony, significance and preserved state. It dominates the Royal Palace; under it lies a labyrinth of corridors and rooms used by priests and royal household.
