The sacred well or sacrificial cenote. This enormous natural water reserve was a main reason for the sites' development at Chichen Itza. On the peninsula of Yucatan these cenotes are present at several locations and so the Mayas used for their water provision.
The sacred well at Chichen Itza has the particularity that it was used for all kind of ceremonies with sacrifices going from all kind of precious objects to humans. Several drainages of this well led to the discovery of many Mayan objects, but also bones of warriors, young woman and children.
